The modern Chausie breed, however, began to take shape in the 1990s when breeders sought to create a cat with the wild appearance of a jungle cat but the temperament of a domestic cat.
The breeding initially involved using the jungle cat from southwestern Asia and Egypt, crossing them primarily with domestic shorthairs, Abyssinians, and later with other breeds to enhance specific desirable traits.
